The dream that seeded all Brazilian realities: the 200th year of Brazil's Independence. Because Brazil is about people. It’s about our ideas, our memories, our hopes, our faith, our histories, our ingenuity, our hard work, and our passion. This is who we are.
All this makes for a united future, moving forward and beyond. You are all invited to this most special birthday party.
"Dia Fico"
"Dia do Fico" or "I Shall Stay Day" is a historical marker of a prelude to Brazil's independence, the bicentennial of which we celebrate this year. Dom Pedro was under heavy pressure from Portugal to abandon his post as regent and return to Lisbon; Brazil would be a colony again.
Choosing to aid his people instead of obeying the court, Dom Pedro boldly announced "I shall stay", emboldening the first Brazilian independence movements and beginning the process of severing ties with Portugal that would lead to Brazilian independence in that very year, 1822.
