When you come to a new country you must adapt and follow the cultures and traditions and this does not mean you are throwing away your own culture, in my home country we believe In cash and we pay upfront for everything.
I was surprised in Brazil people accept a car if you want to buy a house, lol, if you have a good car that is worth the same amount then the seller would accept it.
If you do business it is normal to see Brazilians walk up to you and offer some stuff for exchange and it depends on you if you want it not, so it is normal here, but don’t exchange any phone
